The original layout of this home, with its dark, enclosed kitchen on the lower ground floor and a sunken utility room blocking access and views to the garden, made it a space that felt cut off and underused.
Situated within a Conservation Area, the house required a design that respected its character and the surrounding context, while unlocking its full potential for modern family living.
The key to the scheme was removing the dark, damp utility area and creating a flowing, light-filled family dining space that connects seamlessly from the kitchen to the garden.
Around one metre of ground was regraded to achieve a continuous, level transition between the lower ground floor and the outdoor space.
The result is a contemporary extension that floods the kitchen with natural light, transforming this part of the home into a welcoming, functional space the family genuinely want to spend time in, while enhancing the relationship between the interior and the garden.
